1. CharityWater

Charity Water is a nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

663 million people live without clean water. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide, or, twice the population of the United States without access to life’s most basic human need. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep kids out of school and take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that make them sick.

3. World Wide Web Foundation

The free and open web faces real challenges. More than half the world’s population still can’t get online. For the other half, the web’s benefits come with too many risks: to our privacy, our democracy, our rights.

The World Wide Web Foundation was established in 2009 by web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee to advance the open web as a public good and a basic right. They are an independent, international organisation fighting for digital equality — a world where everyone can access the web and use it to improve their lives.

4. Defenders of Wildlife

The mission of Defenders of Wildlife is to protect and restore endangered wildlife across North America and beyond.

When wildlife is in danger, they can't speak up for themselves—so this organization speaks for them. Defenders of Wildlife deploys a wide range of tools and tactics, from policy analyses and advocacy, to litigation, innovative science and technology programs and field conservation. Every Defenders program aligns with or contributes to at least one of three broad imperatives:

  • Prevent species and their habitats from becoming imperiled.
  • Protect endangered and threatened species and their habitats.
  • Restore the health of vulnerable species and their habitats.
